Sailing with kids

Getting children from Fort Lauderdale to a ship in Port Canaveral is mostly a question of stamina. The operator puts the drive at roughly 185 to 200 miles, or 215 to 280 minutes of driving, which is a long stretch for small passengers already excited about the pool deck. A private car lets you shape that stretch around them.

As many as two car seats plus two boosters are supplied without charge, provided you list every child's age, weight and kind of seat when reserving, and every child, however small, counts in the passenger total. The transfer also covers a single break of no more than half an hour, which you can place wherever the family needs a mid-drive reset. Because Fort Lauderdale-area pickups must be reserved more than 24 hours ahead, settle the details early, then let the adults handle the suitcases while the kids count down to the ship.

Getting the family aboard

Front Door to Terminal Drop-Off

  1. List every child

Enter every child's age, approximate weight and the seat they use. Seats are free, up to two of each kind, and the adult riding alongside checks the fit before the car pulls away.

  2. Declare the bulky gear

Name the stroller and anything oversized ahead of confirmation, so the vehicle turns up with room for it as well as the suitcases.

  3. Take the half-hour pause

The included stop, up to 30 minutes, is the moment for a restroom, a snack and stretched legs. Request it at booking; time beyond it is billed.

  4. Pull up at your terminal

The drive finishes at the drop-off for the terminal your cruise papers name, with the family's luggage coming out of the car together.

Vehicles That Fit Kids, Car Seats and Cruise Cases

Car seats take up seat space, so choose by headcount plus seats first, then check the luggage.

What Makes a Long Ride Easier on Children

Seats matched to each child

Car seats and boosters, up to two of each, are provided for the ages and weights you supply, at no extra cost.

A planned pause

Ask at booking and the transfer includes a pause of as long as 30 minutes; line it up with nap time or snack time.

Patience at the door

The chauffeur waits up to 30 minutes free at your home or hotel, long enough for the last-minute hunt for a favorite toy.

Space for strollers

Declare strollers and bulky items ahead of confirmation, and the vehicle is chosen with that space in mind.

Paid in full beforehand

Port Canaveral only lets in rides arranged and paid ahead of time, so the fare is handled online before the family leaves home.

Planning the Morning Around Naps and Boarding

Children set the pace of a long drive, so build the timetable from both ends. From the ship's side, the boarding window on your cruise documents is the latest you want to arrive. From the family's side, think about when the kids eat, sleep and need to move around. A pickup that lets younger children doze through the first hours can make the rest of the trip easier, and the included stop can be timed for when everyone is awake and hungry. Whatever you decide, keep the 280-minute upper estimate in the plan, not the shorter end.

Booking Notice and What It Means for Parents

Fort Lauderdale and its surrounding area fall under the operator's more-than-24-hours rule, so a family pickup has to be reserved a full day ahead at minimum. Use that lead time to finalize the child-seat request, since each seat needs the child's age, weight and seat type. If plans change, a long-distance transfer cancelled at least 48 hours ahead of pickup gets a complete refund; between 24 and 48 hours out you lose half, and inside 24 hours nothing comes back.

Adding the Ride Home

If the family also needs to get home after the cruise, choose the round-trip option and enter the return date and time. Each leg receives its own pickup confirmation, and the return from Port Canaveral falls under the two-hour minimum that applies to port pickups, because notice depends on where the car collects you. Keep in mind that each leg is a separate service when cancellation timing is worked out.

Why private

Why Travelers Book a Private Ride to the Port

The cruise starts at the gangway. The 46 miles between a runway and that gangway are the part worth handing to someone else.

  • Permitted at the Port's Curb

Port Canaveral restricts terminal access to prearranged, permitted commercial transport. This service holds permits at the port, at MCO and at Orlando Sanford, so nothing gets negotiated at a gate.

  • Your Party, Your Vehicle

A shared shuttle waits for other flights and stops at other ships. A private transfer leaves when your group is ready and drives to one terminal: yours.

  • Room for Cruise Luggage

Formal nights and a week of swimwear add up. You choose the vehicle at booking against your headcount and suitcases — up to twelve travelers and twelve bags in the Sprinter.

  • Car Seats at No Charge

Up to two car seats and two boosters come free. Ask for them in the booking form.

  • The Total Before You Pay

The booking form shows an all-inclusive rate for your itinerary before you confirm — no meter running east of the airport.

  • A 30-Minute Stop Included

Forgot the swimsuits? Every transfer includes one stop of up to 30 minutes on the way, requested at booking.
